Your 5-Day Game of Thrones Itinerary

Historic Winterfell Castle courtyard in County Down, Northern Ireland, featuring medieval stone towers and architecture under a clear blue sky, part of Ireland Prestige Tours heritage attractions.
Winterfell Castle, Northern Ireland

Every dawn brings you deeper into Westeros, across windswept cliffs, along the Kingsroad, and into ruined strongholds clinging to the edge of the sea. With your private driver and guides, the stories of the Seven Kingdoms are no longer fiction but living echoes in the Irish landscape.

Day 1: Belfast & Iron Throne Beginnings

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Arrive in Belfast, the city where the saga took shape, and begin your journey into the world behind the Wall.

Titanic Studios – Where Thrones Were Forged

At the exterior of Titanic Studios, your guide recounts the stories of how this humble shipyard-turned-studio became the beating heart of Game of Thrones. From the Great Hall of Winterfell to the throne room in King’s Landing, countless iconic interiors were born here, forged in secrecy behind these walls.

Titanic Belfast Museum – A Tale of Creation & Tragedy

Step inside the award-winning Titanic Belfast Museum for a private guided tour. Though dedicated to shipbuilding and tragedy, the museum connects directly to the series: its architecture inspired production design, and its shipyard provided craftsmen who built the Iron Throne itself. It is a tale of creation, ambition, and legacy, themes no stranger to Westeros.

Belfast City Highlights – Murals, Quarters & Castle Grounds

Explore Belfast’s murals, where artistry tells stories of conflict and resilience much like the banners of rival houses. Wander the Cathedral Quarter, alive with intrigue and inspiration, before finishing at Belfast’s castle grounds, which offered visual inspiration for the show’s set designs. Each stop reveals a city where reality and fantasy overlap, much as in the Seven Kingdoms.

Overnight in Belfast (2 nights).

Great tour! Did a tour of the coast and some of the Game of Thrones sites. Francis was entertaining and glad they were able to switch our planned date when we looked at the forecast and had some chance for some sun. Would highly recommend!

Day 2: Castle Black & the Dothraki Sea

Medieval stone tower and courtyard at Castle Ward estate in Northern Ireland, famous Game of Thrones Winterfell filming location and popular tourist attraction in Ireland
Castle Ward, Ireland

Venture south of Belfast into lands where Winterfell rose, and the forests hid direwolves.

Castle Ward – Winterfell Reborn

Arrive at Castle Ward, instantly recognizable as Winterfell. On your private guided experience, don Stark armor and train in archery in the same courtyard where Jon Snow and Robb Stark once practiced. Costumes, props, and behind-the-scenes tales immerse you in the making of the series.

Audley’s Castle & Estate Trails – The King in the North

Continue to Audley’s Castle, a looming ruin whose surrounding fields became Robb Stark’s war camp. Walk the estate trails where armies once gathered on-screen, and let your guide recount how these quiet meadows became battlegrounds for the King in the North.

Tollymore Forest Park – Where Direwolves Were Found

Enter the shadowed paths of Tollymore Forest, where the Starks first discovered the direwolf pups. Your guide leads you through mossy glens and along stone bridges used in filming, while tales of ancient trees and watchful godswoods blend with the story of the Seven Kingdoms.

Overnight in Belfast.

Day 3: To the Causeway Coast

Scenic view of Murlough Bay in Northern Ireland with rugged coastline, green hills, and rocky cliffs, a famous Game of Thrones filming location and popular Irish tourist attraction
Murlough Bay, Ireland

Leave Belfast and travel north toward the jagged coastlines that doubled as some of the series’ most dramatic backdrops.

Cushendun Caves – Birth of Shadow & Sorcery

Explore the eerie Cushendun Caves, where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow assassin. The air feels heavy with myth and darkness, the sea echoing against the stone as your guide reveals how this natural cavern became one of the series’ most unforgettable moments.

Murlough Bay – Exile & Betrayal

Stand on the windswept shores of Murlough Bay, where Davos Seaworth was shipwrecked, and Theon Greyjoy was dragged in chains. With cliffs plunging into the sea and the sound of waves crashing far below, the landscape feels fit for exile and betrayal, wild, lonely, and cinematic.

Ballycastle & Larrybane Quarry – Trials of Battle

Continue to Larrybane Quarry, where Renly Baratheon held his camp and where Brienne of Tarth proved her mettle in combat. Step into the arena where loyalties were tested, and swords rang, while the Atlantic roared beyond the cliffs. Nearby in Ballycastle, see the coastal village that ties these lands together, its harbor a reminder of the real communities who lent their homes to fantasy.

Overnight in Ballycastle or Portrush (3 nights).

Amazing service! Myself and 3 friends came to Belfast and wanted to see as much as we possibly could. Francie was our driver and he was absolutely amazing! He made our trip so much better. He took us around to see everything we had asked and more and gave us all the inside tips and information. He was so much fun! Corresponding with Gerry is super easy and he’s very helpful! Would definitely use them again if ever in Belfast and would recommend to all my friends.

Day 4: Iron Islands & the Kingsroad: Oaths & Exile

Historic Dunluce Castle on the Antrim coast, Northern Ireland, perched on dramatic cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a popular sightseeing destination for Ireland tours
Dunluce Castle, Northern Ireland

Today, you journey deeper into Westeros’ harshest lands, where ironborn raiders once sailed, and fugitives fled under ancient trees.

Ballintoy Harbor – Pyke of the Iron Islands

At Ballintoy Harbor, waves batter a rugged cove that doubled as the Iron Islands’ Pyke Harbor. Walk along the quay where Theon Greyjoy first returned to face his people, and where Balon Greyjoy spoke of salt and steel. The harbor remains windswept and unforgiving, a true reflection of the ironborn spirit.

The Dark Hedges – The Kingsroad

Next, walk the brooding avenue of beeches known as the Dark Hedges. On screen, Arya Stark traveled this road disguised as a boy, fleeing King’s Landing. Beneath twisted branches and shifting shadows, your guide shares how this eerie, centuries-old lane became the Kingsroad, the most dangerous path in Westeros.

Dunluce Castle – Fortress of the Greyjoys

Perched on a cliff edge, the ruins of Dunluce Castle evoke the formidable stronghold of Pyke Castle. With your guide, wander its crumbling halls and hear tales of real sieges and shipwrecks that mirror the fate of the Greyjoys. The roar of the Atlantic below completes the illusion of a fortress forever bound to the sea.

Overnight in Ballycastle or Portrush.

Day 5: Giants & Farewell: Legends Carved in Stone

Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

On your final day, Ireland’s myths and Thrones’ legends collide along the wild northern coast.

Giant’s Causeway – Steps of the Gods

Walk the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage site of 40,000 basalt columns stretching into the sea. While geologists speak of volcanic fire, your guide tells the older tale of Finn McCool, Ireland’s great giant, who built this path to Scotland. It is easy to see why these stones became woven into the imagery of Westeros: they feel like the work of gods.

Bushmills Distillery – A Toast to the Realm

At the Old Bushmills Distillery, Ireland’s oldest licensed distillery, enjoy a private tour and tasting. Learn how fire, water, and craft have created whiskey here for over 400 years. Raise a glass of single malt to the Seven Kingdoms, a fitting toast before your journey’s end.

Derry City Walls – Siege & Survival

Finish in the walled city of Derry, whose 17th-century fortifications remain the best-preserved in Europe. With your historian-guide, walk the ramparts where cannons still stand, and hear how these walls inspired the look of Thrones’ great sieges. Here, history and fantasy overlap, reminding you that Ireland’s own past rivals anything written for the screen.

From Derry, your driver will return you to Belfast for your onward journey, carrying with you memories of shadows, castles, and giants carved in stone.
